A Story of Answered Prayer
HALLE WILKENING
In the fall, I will be a junior at Steilacoom High School, and I have been attending Lake City Community Church my whole life. Here is my story from the youth mission trip to Dream Center in Los Angeles.
The week leading up to the Dream Center trip, I was praying God would use my past trials and experiences to help someone else in theirs. Tuesday morning in L.A., we were doing house visits, delivering groceries to houses and praying over people. We visited a woman named Ms. Dorothy. As we were talking to Ms. Dorothy, she explained to us that the doctors think she has breast cancer. As she was explaining to us what was going on, she kept repeating the fact that she was fearful and angry. She had told us, “Things can’t be right,” and she was very frustrated with God.
For those of you that don’t know me, my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was in 5th grade. Like Ms. Dorothy, I also struggled with being very fearful and angry with God.
After she finished, I went up to her privately. I looked her in the eyes and explained my story. I told her that I was in the same situation with her, and I understood the fearfulness, but that God has a plan for everything. I told her that no matter what, God will always be by her side. After I prayed for her, I looked up, and she was in tears. She hugged me, and said, “Thank you baby, I needed this.”
Looking back, I am beyond thankful God answered my prayer and used my past experiences to give hope to someone else.
