Friendship, Learning & Jesus
Cecilia Gomez
I joined Lake City Community Church in September of last year. A couple of months later, I joined the English with Friends group. Since that day, I’ve felt a deep connection with everyone; they are all so friendly and welcoming that my husband and I almost never miss a class.
Besides improving my English fluency, I have met a group of beautiful people, both those who organize every session and those who participate. We have built a nice friendship! They have also helped me get closer to Jesus, teaching us His word in every class. The dynamic of study is so didactic and amusing that two hours fly past.
We meet every Thursday at the Clark’s house at 6:30pm. We start with a delicious meal, sometimes prepared by one of the participants. Learning the cuisine of other countries is always a great experience too. We pray, read, and discuss a story from the Bible, giving our opinions and sharing our personal experiences in a respectful and confident environment. Sometimes, we play a role based on some Scripture. In this way, we come back home with a lesson from Jesus and English as well. We finish praying for our intentions and express gratitude for the moment together. I’m so happy and grateful to have this group of friends. I even celebrated my last birthday with them - it was an amazing and fun time!
