Rediscovering God

Alexis & Cecilia Gonzalez

I was born in Chile, a predominantly Catholic country in South America. As a child, I was baptized into the Catholic faith, but wasn’t really involved in the church until my teenage years when I joined a youth volunteer group at my local parish. I was searching for answers but never found them. Later, as a father, I had my children baptized in the same religion—more out of societal expectation than genuine conviction. I also didn’t fulfill my role as a father by introducing them to God.

Today, three of my children believe in God but don’t truly know Him, while one doesn’t believe at all. When we moved to this country, it was for better job opportunities. While trying to improve our English, we met Tricia and Tyler Knack. One afternoon, as we got together to get to know each other better, we asked them about LC3—and what a moment that turned out to be.

The first time I attended a service at LC3, I felt something different—a unique connection, a different atmosphere. I was moved to tears by the worship; it felt like God was speaking
directly to me, and even now, I still feel that way. For the first time, I’m truly communicating with the Lord. I need Him, and believe my eyes have finally been opened. As it says in John 9:25: “One thing I do know: I was blind, but now I see.” Now, on Fridays, the only question on my mind is whether I’ll go to the Saturday or Sunday service. On Thursdays, we gather with English with Friends to dive deeper into the Gospel while improving our English, Sundays are for our prayer group, and once a month, I volunteer during the Sunday service.

Today, I can say I’ve rediscovered the Lord. I know I’ve lost a lot of time, and now I have a big task ahead of me—both for myself and to bring my children closer to God. There’s still a long road ahead, but I believe it was the Lord who sought me out, and He won’t leave me alone. Beyond that, this incredible LC3 community inspires me week after week, and I’m so happy to be part of it. May the Lord bless you all
