A Stronger Marriage

Carey & Rikki Bogue

We were married in 1990, and things started out pretty rocky. We came from different backgrounds and didn’t have a strong foundation for what makes a healthy marriage, other than simply hoping we could build a good one. We journeyed through life with our “his, hers, and ours” kids, and while some years were really great, others were equally difficult.

Through it all, the one saving factor for our marriage was our faith in God. During the
difficult seasons, we sought counseling, which helped us work through some of our challenges, but we still hadn’t learned how to resolve conflict well or how to truly value and understand each other.

When we began attending LC3, we were encouraged to participate in re|engage. After a couple of years, we finally made time for it on our calendar. Our only regret is that we didn’t do it sooner!

Through re|engage, we learned practical tools for building a strong, Christ-centered marriage alongside a group of other couples who were walking through the same 14-week journey. It was hard work, but being in a safe environment with other couples who were willing to be honest and grow together made the process doable.

We were so impacted by what God did in our marriage that we decided to serve in the re|engage ministry together as a couple. We have seen the fruit of the Lord’s good work in our own lives, and we want to share that hope with other couples.

We know we are still growing in our marriage, and we continue to trust God’s work in our lives and in the lives of the couples we serve: “He who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6).
