On the way to Jerusalem, the disciples James and John ask for the seats of highest honor in Jesus’ coming kingdom. Jesus uses the moment to teach all the His followers that His kingdom is upside-down from the world in relation to power and authority: kingdom citizens do not use their power to "lord it over" others; rather suffering for one's faith is honored, and true greatness comes through serving. The ultimate example is Jesus Himself — the Son of Man who came not to be served but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.
